Hankies- Shaftesbury Avenue

For those of you who love Indian Street Food, have worshipped at the tables of popular restaurants such as: Dishoom, Masala Zone and so on, this small, intimate restaurant is for you!
Hidden behind the hustle and bustle of Shaftesbury Avenue, at Hankies you can find comparable delicious Indian street food at a fraction of the price.
Hankies takes its name from their signature roomali roti (it’s not all about you, Dishoom!)
Huge, square, pillow soft chapattis that melt in the mouth and go great with any curry.

Petite and cosy, Hankies has an open kitchen so that you can watch the chefs’ hard at work on preparing you delicious food.
Although with only a handful of tables, Hankies lets you choose where you sit and assures that you do not have to share a table with anyone else. Wooden floors, tables and walls provide a rustic look with authentic spice tins lending colourful, decorative touches.

The A’la Carte menu consists of a range of small plates so that you can try different options without getting full or damaging your pocket. Hankies also has an express and pre theatre menu if you are in a hurry aswell as a great vegetarian menu.
During my visit, I tried a variety of dishes from the grill including; the chilli lamb chop, chive and garlic prawn, chargrilled beef, chicken dhaba and of course roomali roti!

Hankies was a memorable foodie experience and all the food made my mouth water. The chilli lamb chop was incredibly tender and flavoursome and the meat practically fell off the bone. The chive and garlic prawn was huge and deliciously garlicky (surprise, surprise). Usually, when I go to restaurants and have garlic flavoured prawns, the chefs season the prawns with the tiniest bit of garlic. This was not the case at Hankies. The chargrilled beef melted in the mouth with intense flavours, but my favourite was the chicken dhaba curry which although rather spicy, will leave you craving for more.

I would recommend Hankies to the adventurous palette, who doesn’t mind spice and loves trying new foods.
